View allMoCA announces ratification of version 2.0
The Multimedia-over-Coax Alliance (MoCA), which provides specifications for home networking over in-home coax, has announced ratification of its next-generation specification, MoCA 2.0.
The new specification will include two performance modes with minimum net throughputs of 400Mbps and 800Mbps (MAC) and additional turbo nodes optimised for two node WAN applications, providing an additional 25% net throughput on each. It also includes two new power-saving modes – standby and sleep – and an expanded operating frequency range, as well as backward interoperability with MoCA 1.0 and 1.1.
MoCA's marketing working group chair Rob Gelphman said the features of the latest version of the MoCA specification had been driven by US operators. “We have put together this package so that when people commit to MoCA 1.0/1.1 they can be assured they have a road map for the next two years or so,” he said.
Gelphman said that the expansion of the frequency range to 500MHz through 1,650MHz was aimed primarily at satellite operators that wanted to use MoCA for in-house distribution of their signals.
