UK Culture Secretary under pressure
UK Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt has come under renewed pressure following new revelations about his involvement in News Corp’s failed bid for control of UK pay TV platform BSkyB.
Evidence given to the ongoing Leveson Inquiry in the UK suggested that Hunt had expressed an opinion in favour of News Corp’s bid and kept in regular touch with the company’s officials after being handed the quasi-judicial role of deciding whether the bid should be approved.
The opposition Labour Party has renewed its calls for Hunt to resign. The minister himself will give evidence to the Inquiry next week. Prime Minister David Cameron will also appear.
