EBU launches integrated production programme

The European Broadcasting Union has launched a new strategic programme that aims to help members to integrate production processes for multiplatform distribution.

“Traditionally, broadcasters have produced content for their different platforms using separate facilities. Attempts to access content for integrated and networked production have therefore been costly and have usually relied on customised, and therefore expensive, solutions. Open system architectures for integrating production have not been available,” the EBU noted.

The Integrated Media Production Strategies programme, which will focus initially on news and sport, will address these topics from organisational, editorial and technical points of view. The EBU will determine the requirements of its members, with activities to include site visits and sharing of experiences in order to develop best practice guidelines. The programme will develop definitions and descriptions of typical elements, including production and playout platforms. The group will be chaired by Herbert Tillmann, technical director of Bayerischer Rundfunk.
